The China (Shenzhen) - UK (London) Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference was fruitfully held in London on June 11. It was jointly sponsored by the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC).

Key-note speech by Wang Weizhong, Secretary of Shenzhen Party Committee
Wang Weizhong, Party Secretary of Shenzhen, Guangdong Province: made a key-note speech. He said that under the joint push by Chairman Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Theresa May, the China-UK Global Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Properly Facing the 21st Century has been continually developing onto a deeper level, embracing the enhanced version of its Golden Age. Shenzhen, as a front-line and ‘window’ for China’s Reform and Opening up, boasts a sound basis for exchanges and cooperation with the UK. Currently, with the launch of a new round of measures for China to autonomously expand its openness and the acceleration of development/construction for the ‘Belt and Road’ and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a series of new opportunities are continually mushrooming, with Shenzhen and the UK enjoying huge potentialities in exchanges and cooperation. The city will actively take opportunities as many as possible to fit into the world in a posture of more openness. He was in the hope that Shenzhen will draw on this Meeting to strengthen pro-practicality collaboration with the UK in trade, investment, innovation, financial, humanist and other fields, so as to materialize synergy and reciprocity with higher quality and at a higher level, and thereon make greater contributions to pushing for, and implementing, the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative projects, promoting the development and construction of Greater Bay Area , and developing friendly relations between China and the UK.

Ambassador Liu Xiaoming remarked in his speech that the China-UK relations have enjoyed quicker development in recent years, with their local-level exchanges and cooperation going increasingly deep. Shenzhen has successively established sister-cities ties with the City of London, the Scotland region and the British Virgin Islands. Looking ahead, he saw that there are giant potentials and great prospects for Shenzhen and the UK to cooperate in such fields as technology innovation, financial services, the creative industry and intelligent manufacturing.
